GOVERNMENT CONTACTS
Federal
Massachusetts

Contacting your elected officials:

Personal contacts can be the most effective form of advocacy.
However, phone calls, letters, faxes, and e-mail are all good strategies.

A few basics:

* Be concise, accurate, and polite.
*
Speak for yourself as a voter, not as a member of an organization.

*
Keep to one issue.

*
Be specific about what action you wish the official to take:

"Vote yes on bill #1234," for example.

*
Be timely: make the contact close to when the action will be taken.

*
Include any relevant personal experience.

*
Ask for a written response.

*
Include your name and address, even in e-mail and on the phone,

to show you're a constituent
